Trip to York

Yet again I booked tickets to another country at a certain low price airline, this time to York. This trip was a wee bit special, why I will try to account for it differently from past trips. To say the least, it was poorly planned on my part.

My flight from Dublin to Leeds-Bradford was due at 9 am on Saturday morning. In order to safely catch this flight I had to take the bus from Limerick at 1 am, arriving in Dublin Airport at 4.30 am. So I spent four and half hours reading at the gate. When I came to Leeds-Bradford everything ran smoothly and in a matter of minutes my bus to Leeds/York arrived.

I had a lovely time in York and all of a sudden it was Sunday night and time for me to go home.

At the bus stop we realised that the bus to Leeds terminated in Tadcaster. In other words I was stuck in the middle of nowhere. After about ten conversations with the cab company they were able to get me a car from Tadcaster bus station to Leeds-Bradford Airport. A good hour later--£55 poorer--I found myself at the airport again.

It was now 1 am and my flight was due at 6.30 am. Another five and a half hours of reading and I was on my way back to Ireland.

When in Ireland it turned out I had just missed the bus to Limerick. It was 7.30 am and the next bus would leave at 10.45 am. I ate some potato wedges for breakfast and kept reading my book until the bus finally arrived. After a long trip I was finally back in Limerick around 2 pm, having spent some 14 hours at airports and some 34 hours in York with a total of eight hours of sleep.

I have to say, however, that it was worth it. York is a lovely place that I encourage everyone to visit if they get a chance. Parts of it can be seen in the pictures below, most of them from York Minster.

Trip to Cork

We found bus tickets to Cork for €2, so we decided to see the second biggest city in Ireland. Walking around the city we found a bunch of churches, two breweries (Beamish and Murphy's), "the most beautiful window in Cork", and a Subway. In other words, another great day in Ireland.

An inner trip

I have noticed a pattern in my writing habits, I only write about places I visit. The fact is that I am visiting Limerick for the most part, so I should write more about what I do here. On the other hand, pictures of me studying or drinking beer in the kitchen would not be that exciting. However, last Thursday was a wonderful day worth mentioning, no matter how mundane it might seem. The weather has been treating us good this last week so we took the opportunity to sit outside our house to drink a few Stellas. By the end of the night we had quite a gathering and it all became one of those Thursdays that will stay with me.

Below, you can also see a picture of the Plassey cat. There are a few stray cats around here, but PC hangs around a lot outside my window because I feed him. Sadly his front leg is broken and I have contacted Limerick Animal Welfare, who have assigned me to bring the cat to a veterinary clinic downtown. Hopefully we will be able to catch it on Monday and get him into town somehow.

This is Plassey Village, you can see the clock tower which is attached to our house

Trip to Albufeira

The last five nights of our Easter break was spent in Algarve--in the city of Albufeira. We had a wonderful time and the weather was amazing. Albufeira is not a city full of sights, it is more so a city where you relax in your hotel room or on the beach. Hence, this is what we did--combined with one or two cheap beers.

However, it is still a beautiful city with a lovely coastline, so I was able to take some nice photographs. I was planning to watch the sunrise, but getting up at half past six in the morning never really happened, unfortunately. I did manage to get up at eight on Easter Sunday though, to go to church in the old town. This turned out to be a failure, since it took us two hours to get there and when we finally arrived the mass was more or less over. Moreover, the bus ride home took us more than one hour. We did however get to see most of Albufeira in one way or another.

In conclusion, good times in Portugal!
